Pelham, NC - Mrs. Shirley Mae Williams Stokes, a native of Caswell County, North Carolina was born on August 15, 1948. She was a loving and devoted daughter to the late Mr. James Matthew Williams and Mrs. Evelyn Johnson Williams.
Shirley age 72, departed her earthly life, and traveled to her heavenly home on October 05, 2020. She passed away at the Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Shirley dedicated her life to Christ at a young age. She was a member of the Bluestone Baptist Church and she attended Gwynn’s Chapel a neighboring church occasionally. She had an eye winning smile and she demonstrated kindness and compassion through her willingness to assist anyone who came in her path.
Shirley was a Bartlett Yancey High School (Formerly Caswell County High School) graduate of “Class of 1966”. She later met and married in Holy Matrimony the love of her life, Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr., on August 17, 1968. Shirley was a faithful and devoted wife, mother to her two sons Curtis and Charles.
Shirley started her career as a Teachers Aide for Caswell County School systems and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Later in her career Shirley was a Medical Records/Desk Clerk at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital, Reidsville, North Carolina until declining health. Her favorite past-times were reading, completing puzzle books, and watching her favorite sports team on television, (her favorite team was whoever won). To this day she also enjoyed watching cartoons especially “Dark Wing Duck” with her eldest son. Shirley will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten.
Mrs. Shirley Mae Williams Stokes, leaves to cherish her memories to her beloved husband of the home, Curtis Bailey Stokes, Sr., her two sons, Curtis Bailey Stokes, Jr., of Danville, Virginia; and Charles Fredrick Stokes (wife FeMaryjo) of El Paso, Texas; her seven grandchildren; her two sisters, Vanessa Staples (husband Richard) and Wanda Blackwell both of Danville, Virginia; her brother, Thomas “Tommie” Johnson (wife Olivia) of Danville, Virginia; her mother-in-law, Lossie Pearl Lea of Ruffin, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time. (Per CDC Guidelines: Facial Masks are required).
Funeral Service will be Sunday, October 11, 2020 2:00 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home (Also Live-Streaming).
