James Odell Bigelow Obituary

Sunday January 31, 2021 God called his role for one of his servants James Odell Bigelow at Annie Penn Hospital (Cone Health) Reidsville NC. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend made his peaceful transition from an earthly labor to heavenly rest.

James Odell Bigelow, son of the late Robert Henry Bigelow and Mary Edna King Bigelow was born on November 19, 1938 in Caswell County North Carolina. As a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, “Odell” attended the local public schools. He later served in the United States Army from 1961-1963. For 31 years he was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Danville Virginia from which he later retired.

Odell was reared in a strong Christian home. At an early age he became a member of Sassafras Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he diligently served until, he transitioned to Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist church under watch care. In his later years he attended New Ephesus Baptist Church Ruffin, NC, where he expressed his love for the Lord. All will remember Odell for his fun-loving laughter, jovial spirit and humor to brighten one’s day.

In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in death by one daughter Valerie Gail Wiley, sisters Edna Florence Bigelow and Irene Bigelow Brooks and one brother Robert Perrian Bigelow.

Odell is survived by his wife of 53 years Lucinda Cobb Bigelow of the home; one son James Earl Bigelow (Brenda) of Browns Summit, North Carolina; three grandchildren Ronald Wiley Jr., Brianna Wiley and Cayden Bigelow; two nephews Norman Brooks (Charlene) and Gordon Brooks (Rita) of Richmond, Virginia and a host of other relatives and friends
