Burlington, NC -On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Chattie B. Graves Brown transitioned from labor to rest at Green Valley Hospital (Moses Cone) Greensboro.
She was the daughter of Mr. John Thomas Graves and Mrs. Adelaide Totten Graves, both deceased. She was an employee of the National Security Agency for 30 years. After her retirement, she relocated to Burlington, NC and devoted many hours as a volunteer at the John Robert Kernodle Senior Center.
She was a faithful member of Blackwell Baptist Church and loved gathering with family and friends at the Graves-Phillips and Totten Family Reunions until her health declined.
Leaving to cherish her memory are a son, Raphael “Ray” Brown of Burlington, NC, one granddaughter, Dwyann (Shelly) Lambert of Mobile, AL; brothers, Henry Graves (Gwen) and Hubert Fuller of Yanceyville, NC and Melvin Hatcher, Jr. of Edgewood, MD; sisters-in-law, Annette Graves of Greensboro, NC, Alice Graves of Yanceyville, NC, Gladys Graves of Blanch, NC and Joy Graves of Charlotte, NC; five great-grandchildren; Deon Lambert, Delon Lambert, Torrance Dubose, Terjuan Dubose, Torrez Dubose, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Brown, seven brothers, Lindberg Graves, Roy Graves, Felix Graves, Herbert Fuller, Willie Lee Graves, Hilton "Chuck" Graves and Leonard S. Graves; sisters, Edna Richmond, Bernice Mebane and Bernice Davidson
Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be held on Saturday , May 23, 2020 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time. Please remember to follow CDC guidelines with everyone wearing protective gloves and masks.
Private Graveside Service will be Saturday, May 23, 2020 2:30 pm in Blackwell Baptist Church Cemetery.
