Burnett Hughes

Milton, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Ms. Burnett Hughes of 4554 Yarborough Mill Road, Milton, NC; who departed her life on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Ms. Burnett Hughes was the eldest child born to the late Ivery Johnson and Sue Hughes Johnson on January 18, 1953, in Caswell County, North Carolina.  She was affectionately known as “Burnie”.

Burnett attended and graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in the “Class of 1971”. She was an employee for many years at Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia.

Burnett LOVED GOD and church; and she was a member of Oak Level AME Church, in Milton, North Carolina.

In addition to Burnett’s parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Barbara “Duck” Johnson and Shirley Jean Scott “Grownie”, her brother, Ivey “Wolf” Hughes; one sister-in-law, Denise Johnson, and one brother-in-law Jerry Scott.

Ms. Burnett Hughes leaves to cherish her memories to her six siblings, William Hughes of Semora, North Carolina; Sallie Johnson of Blairs, Virginia; Samuel Johnson of Pelham, North Carolina; Mary Hughes of Raleigh, North Carolina; John Johnson of Milton, North Carolina; and Pastor Danny Johnson (Co-Pastor Teresa) of Roxboro, North Carolina; several aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends.

Memorial Services for Ms. Burnett Hughes will be Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. with family visitation from 12:00 noon to 1:30pm in the Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home, Pastor Danny Johnson of Zion Christian Center will deliver the words of comfort.  (Facial Masks are required)
