Ms. Betty was born a native of Caswell County, North Carolina on June 15, 1939; to the late Earline Lea and Mary Alice Lipscomb Lea. She was the youngest of eight children and the apple of her father’s eye. Ms. Betty Marion Lea Strong, age 83, departed this earthly life and took off her earthly robe and adorned her spiritual robe for her heavenly home on Saturday, June 18, 2022; surrounded by her cherished daughters. Ms. Betty grew up in North Carolina and attended and graduated from Caswell County Training School. After graduating, she headed for New York and made that her home until her rest. She worked with her sister at her sister’s Cleaners for years and then went to work for New York Hotel Trades, where she retired after over 20 years of service. Ms. Betty married at an early age and from that union, came her two daughters, Margaret, and Patricia. In her pastimes, she loved being surrounded by her family and doated on her only grandson, who she affectionately called, “Grandma’s Boy”. Her favorite thing to do was Word Search Puzzles, where she would sit for hours doing them and shopping with her daughters. At an early age, Ms. Betty accepted Christ and joined River Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, North Carolina. Upon moving to New York, she attended Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, of Jamaica, New York. In addition to Ms. Betty’s parents, Earline, and Mary Alice, she was preceded in death by her five sisters, Louise Swann, Jerneata Dingle, Frances Camp, Ada Womack, Alean Lea and one brother, Emmett Lea. Ms. Betty leaves to cherish her memories to her two beloved daughters, Margaret Ann Spencer, Margaret’s husband, Timothy Alexander Spencer, Patricia Strong Boyd, Patricia’s husband, William Byron Boyd, a cherished grandson, William Byron Boyd, III, all of Baldwin, New York; one beloved Sister, Margaret Stephens of Providence, North Carolina, one sister-inlaw, Carolyn Lea of Blanch, North Carolina and a host of beautiful Nieces, Nephews, too many to count, but all dear to her heart and other relatives and friends that were so close, she called them, Family.
Funeral service for Ms. Betty Marion Lea Strong will be Tuesday, June 28, 2022 1:00 PM with family arriving at 12 Noon at River Zion Baptist Church. Pastor Alvis Alston will deliver the words of comfort. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
