Green Level, NC - Mrs. Annie Harris Poteat Carver was a twin of eighteen children born on March 30, 1929 in Rockingham County, North Carolina to the late Robert Lee Harris, Sr. and Gillie Williamson Harris.
Annie at age 91, departed her earthly life, and was granted her angel wings for her heavenly home on June 29, 2020. She passed away peacefully at the Laurel Forest Glenn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Garner, North Carolina.
Annie dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age and was steadfast to her faith. Her childhood church was New Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church in Ruffin, North Carolina. After marriage and moving to Green Level, North Carolina; she attended Green Level Christian Church; where everyone loved and respected her dearly. We all knew her for shouting, jumping, and giving praises unto the Lord at any given time!
Annie was an employee at Gold Toe Socks & Hosiery (formerly named Anneden) in Burlington, North Carolina for many years following her employment at Sue-Lynn Textiles in Haw River, North Carolina. During her retirement she worked for Hardees as a Hospitality Greeter. This gave her an opportunity to talk and meet people on a daily basis (She called this her fun job)! Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family (giving everyone nicknames), working in her yard, pruning trees, and going to church activities.
In addition to Annie’s parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ernest Poteat, and her second husband, Robert Carver; her beloved daughter, Sadie Mae Poteat Cates; three sisters, Mary Cook, Ada Wilson, and Sarah Simpson; eleven brothers, Johnny, Thomas, Rufus, Ruby, Weldon, Marshal, Haywood (Sport) Sr., William (Her twin better known to us as Nick), Willie Turner, Sr., Rally, and Robert Lee Harris, Jr..
Mrs. Annie Harris Poteat Carver leaves to cherish her precious memories to her two daughters, Sarah Poteat Ledet (Michael) of Smithfield, North Carolina; and Jacqueline Poteat Plato of Raleigh, North Carolina; three sons, Paul Poteat (Faye) of Mesquite, Texas, David Thomas (Tom) Carver of Burlington, North Carolina, and John Poteat (Margaret); one sister; Gillie (Polly) Pinnix of Reidsville, North Carolina; two brothers, David K.
